Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I really need to hire a professional photographer ?
This is a question that you can only really answer yourself. You know how hard you have worked to make this 'one off' life event a success. You know how important the day is to you and your family. How you capture these precious moments so that the memories can live on is very much a personal choice.
By hiring the right professional photographer you will be ensuring that your wedding day will be photographed to the highest of standards with every detail recorded. This will allow you to cherish and re-live the days events again and again for the rest of your life.
2. Why should I book 'Irish Wedding Photography', aren't all photographers the same ?
All photographers are not the same. As with other creative industries, photographers develop their own style and way of working. One of the most important skills that a wedding photographer has to display is people skills. At Irish Wedding Photography we are particulalry mindful that not all of our clients are used to being photographed with many being anxious about this aspect of their wedding day. David along with his team of photographers and designers all have the interpersonal skills and personalities to be able to strike a rapport with couples which in turn makes them feel relaxed and happy throughout the photography process. We work quickly and efficiently and make sure that the photography session adds to your days enjoyment and does not interfere with it.
3. There is an alternative photographer in my local town and he is only charging €1,000.00, why are you more expensive ?
Photography is no different to any other service or product you buy. You can buy a car for €30,000.00 or you buy a car for €10,000.00 - they are both cars but they are clearly not the same. When you hire Irish Wedding Photography, you are buying into over 80 years collectively of photographic experience. You will receive a wedding album that is of a world class standard - that is our level.
We are confident that we offer the highest quality of service and excellent value for money.
4. What do I get for my photography fees ?
The €1500.00 photography fee covers the attendance of the photographer (see question 8 for duration of stay) to cover your wedding day.
In addition to this you will receive a 60 page spiral bound port folio photo book showing up to 350 photos of your wedding in sequential order. We also supply a print allowance of 100 ‘5 x 7’ prints suitable for framing.
5. What type of albums do you supply ?
Irish Wedding Photography have become specialists in the production of digital albums. Digital Albums can feature more photographs than traditional albums and typically can show over 120 photographs depending on the type and size of album selected.
Digital albums (or digital books) can also include a more 'stylized look' that tells the full story of your wedding day with a mix of formal and informal photographs. We have mixed the creative talents of our photographers with those of our own inhouse design team to produce stunning and unique wedding albums that will become heir looms within your family.
6. Will David Knight be our photographer ?
David works as part of a team of photographers. The team have been 'hand-picked' by David for both their photographic skills and personality. Whichever photographer attends your wedding, you can be assured that you will receive the same level of service and product from each and everyone of them.
You can make a specific request for a particular photographer if you wish. If they are available for your date, then you can book them.
7. I don't like having photographs taken, will the wedding photography take long ?
As previously indicated, Irish Wedding Photography work in an efficient and unobtrusive way which allows all parties to enjoy the wedding. Many of the photographs that we take during the day are of a candid nature. This means that you are not being formally posed and indeed for many of the photos, you will not even be aware that the camera is on you!
To produce the type of world class wedding album that we have become renowned for, we do need a little time donated to the photography. Usually you can say that the formal family photographs will take 30 minutes. The wedding party photographs will take 20 minutes and then finally the bride and groom alone, a further 20 minutes. The total is 1 hour 20 minutes.
As a rule, our experience has found that from the time of the wedding ceremony to the time that the guests are called for dinner should not be less than 4 hours 30 minutes (wedding ceremony at 13:00, diner should not be called before 17:30). This timing allows for the meeting of guests after the ceremony, formal family photographs at the church, travelling time between the church, scenic location and hotel.
The photography session takes place in a relaxed and informal manner that allows everyone to have a little fun.
8. How long do you stay during the day and what events do you cover ?
Attendance at the brides’s house is neccessary to brief bridal party in relation to the day’s photography and may include preparation photographs of the bride and details of dress, shoes, family pictures etc if requested. It is normal for the photographer to arrive at the bride’s house one hour before the ceremony begins.
The groom and groomsmen will normally be covered at the church, or if times does allows at a chosen location prior to the ceremony, provided that it is within close proximity of the bride’s house and that the groom (groom’s family) are prepared to be ready two hours before the ceremony.
The Church Ceremony will be covered showing natural and informal photographs of the bride and groom and their families. We recommend that formal family pictures should be photographed at the church or at an alternative location should the church or church grounds not be suitable. Our team of photographers work in an efficient and unobtrusive manner – with the assistance of the bridal party we would endeavour to take the family photographs within a thirty minute period.
In our experience we have found that the main bridal party photographs should be photographed at a separate scenic location (we are happy to make recommendations). If the hotel has suitable grounds these photographs can be taken at this location. It is imperative to allow a forty minute duration for these photographs.
Photographs will be taken of the bride and groom arriving at the hotel. If time allows some social and personal photographs will be taken of the guests at the drinks reception prior to the meal. The cake cutting ceremony will be photographed before the meal. Photography ends before the meal is served.
9. Will we get to choose the photographs for our album ?
Yes. Within four weeks of the wedding date, you will receive a spiral bound port folio photo book showing up to 350 photos of your wedding. To further assist you with photograph selection, the 350 images will also be available within a private web gallery (password protected) which will allow you to choose the images for your album along with any extra prints that you may wish to order.
Once we have received your selection of 100 photographs, our team of designers will begin the design process. Before the final album is sent for manufacture, you will be given a proof (pdf computer file) to check. If required you can make up to six changes to this proof.
